This 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280SE cabriolet is one of approximately 1,390 examples produced between 1968 and 1971. The car was refurbished in the 1990s and was acquired by the current owner in 2013. It is powered by a replacement 2.8-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission and is finished in Moss Green Metallic over beige leather. Equipment includes a brown convertible top, 14″ steel wheels with covers, disc brakes, US-specification headlights, lap belts, a Becker AM/FM radio, and air conditioning. This W111 cabriolet is now offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner with a copy of the data card, manufacturer’s literature, service records, refurbishment photos, Concours judging sheets, spare parts, a car cover, and a clean California title in the owner’s name.

The car left the factory finished in blue and was repainted in Moss Green Metallic as part of the refurbishment performed in the mid-1990s. Exterior features include a brown soft top, a top boot, front vent windows, US-specification headlights, and chrome bumpers.

The 14″ steel wheels feature bright-finished covers with color-matched centers and are mounted with 195/75 Hankook Optimo H724 tires. The suspension includes an independent double-wishbone front setup with coil springs along with a rear single-joint swing axle. Stopping power is provided by power-assisted disc brakes at each corner. The brake booster was replaced in 2013 and the steering coupler replaced in 2021.

The cabin was overhauled during the refurbishment and features individual front seats and a rear bench that have been reupholstered in beige leather, and wood trim accents the dash and A-pillars. Amenities include lap belts, a dashboard-mounted clock, a Becker AM/FM radio, Coco floor mats, and air conditioning, which was converted to R134a in 2013.

The two-spoke steering wheel features a chrome horn ring and fronts a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. The five-digit odometer has rolled over and shows 25k miles, approximately 8,600 of which were added under current ownership.

The replacement 2.8-liter M130 inline-six was installed by Mike Elzey’s Motor Service in Neenah, Wisconsin during the restoration in 1997. Work in 2021 involved replacing the spark plugs, ignition wires, and points.

Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. A replacement exhaust system was installed in 2013.

Photos and records from the refurbishment are viewable in the gallery.

A decode of the data card is viewable above.
